Counselling for Adults
Therapy has helped thousands of people navigate difficult lives and past traumas. Through meeting regularly, I aim to help you tell your story. I do this by listening respectfully and closely, seeking to understand and support rather than to judge. Counselling offers something different to other relationships, it is a confidential space away from the pressures of 21st century life, a space in which you can learn to understand yourself better, think about what is truly important to you and grow into a happier and more fulfilled life.
To achieve this change I use both humanistic and psychodynamic theories. In brief, humanistic theory is based on the idea that when people are given the correct conditions they can grow as a person, find more meaning in their life and increase their self-acceptance. Psychodynamic theory looks at how past experiences and unresolved trauma in early relationships may be influencing relationships today and tends to be longer term work.
I will work with you to explore any issues you choose to bring to therapy. My approach is conversational with my primary aim to create an environment in which you feel able to explore aspects of yourself that may be causing pain. They may well have hitherto been unexplored. We don't always find it easy to allow our attention to focus on matters that cause distress, especially if it means looking closely at ourselves. Counselling offers a protected space and a supportive relationship, in which this process of close attention can be made possible.
I work with a range of issues including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Relationship issues
- Bereavement and Loss
- Trauma of all kinds
- Anger
- Self-Harm
- Domestic and Sexual Abuse
